5 Fall Driving Safety Tips

Fall driving can be different than the summer. And, whether you are a new or experienced driver, you should be aware of how driving conditions can change. This way, you can ensure that you and other drivers are safe when you step into your driver’s seat.

Here are 5 fall driving safety tips you can use.

Watch For Falling Leaves

During the fall, the weather becomes cooler and usually rainy. And even though falling leaves can be pretty due to their changing colours, they can be a hazard. They can make the roads slippery. And, they can cover certain road markings that may be important in certain areas. So, make sure you drive cautiously when there are significant amounts of fallen leaves so you do not miss anything.

Follow Wildlife Signs

As animals gear up to go into hibernation or find new homes for the winter, they tend to be lurking during the fall. As a result, they may cross different roads, even when vehicles are driving. If you notice any deer crossing signs or signs indicating wildlife, make sure to drive with extra caution. And keep your eyes open for any wildlife to prevent any collisions.

Be Comfortable With Night Driving

The days start getting shorter in the fall. So you’ll be doing more driving in the dark. You can’t see as well, which makes signs, road markings, and other vehicles harder to see. This can be a hazard for you and other drivers. Make sure you are comfortable driving at night since the fall means more night time driving.

Watch For Frost

Once fall rolls around, it is only a matter of time until the frost begins since winter is around the corner. Frost can create difficult-to-see icy patches on the road. Make sure to follow speed limits and avoid any abrupt stops so your car does not slide. You can also try to avoid side roads as icy patches are more likely to form there than on main roads.
